PGA Tour star Aaron Wise was hit in the head by Cameron Smith’s erratic tee shot at the PGA Championship. Wise was on the seventh hole on Friday’s second round, concentrating on his shot from the fairway to the green.

The American’s pre-shot routine took a wild turn due to Smith’s actions five holes back. The Aussie star hit a wild drive from the second hole which flew to the seventh and caught the unsuspecting Wise in the head without rebounding.

After being hit, the American dropped to one knee for about 30 seconds before wiping the punch and continuing his round.

Luckily, Wise was able to finish his round and only had three holes left after starting his second round on the 10th hole. Despite the blow to the head, the world No. 91 seemed out of phase as he scored par on the seventh hole at Southern Hills.

The American has put in a solid performance over the first 36 holes as he sits a point over par in 30th place over the last two rounds. After Friday’s outing, Wise was reportedly keen to show off his war wounds to his fellow players.

Golf Channel reporter Ryan Lavner reported that the 25-year-old had ice on the back of his headpost round while showing the mark from where the ball struck him on his cap. Smith, meanwhile, made his way to his wayward tee shot before heading out to make a hard-earned par.

The Aussie star is well in the mix heading into the day of movement at Southern Hills after he followed up his two under par 68 on Thursday with a solid level par 70 on Friday’s second round. Those results leave the Players champion behind for the event by two shots, seven shots behind leader Will Zlatoris and a tie in tenth place.

Both Wise and Smith will continue their big outing in Oklahoma tonight, with the former teeing off alongside Scot Robert MacIntyre at 17:13 BST while the latter goes into the third round with Cameron Young at 18:43 BST.
