Fans of independent power couple Phoebe Bridgers and Paul Mescal had mixed feelings when it was reported that the couple is now engaged.
His news was initially confirmed by the Guardian, which posted an interview with Mescal on Sunday (November 6) asserting that he and Bridgers are “now engaged”,
However, the publication later updated the record to say that the couple were “supposedly engaged”.
Whether Bridgers and Mescal are indeed engaged has yet to be confirmed, but fans have taken to social media to express their feelings about the potential marriage.
Some people reminisced about how the 28-year-old Punisher singer and the 26-year-old Ordinary star met online after Bridgers posted a tweet about the BBC mini-series.
The Californian singer wrote in a tweet in May 2020 that read: “The end of commoners and now I’m sad and waiting.”
This was followed by a Twitter exchange between her and Mescal, who responded to her tweet to say he was “officially dead”.
They then met virtual on Instagram Live. Bridgers and Mescal confirmed their relationship in November 2021 when they made their red carpet debut as a couple at the LACMA Art + Film Gala 2021 presented by Gucci.

“Phoebe Bridgers tweeted about being cuckolded after watching Normal People and then flew across the Atlantic in the middle of a pandemic quarantine to connect with Paul Mescal and now that they are married, this is SO REAL. MAN,” one person shared on Twitter.
Another said: “No because Phoebe Bridgers watched Ordinary People, openly yearned for Paul Mescal and is now engaged to him and because of that she is my hero.”
Others seemed uninspired by the romance and joked about how bitter they felt about the unconfirmed news.
“Look at us, we are Phoebe Bridgers and Paul Mescal, we are both really talented, happy and in love,” writes Ross Sayers, a young adult fiction author. “Grow up.”
“Two sexiest people on the planet outside of the market. I am in mourning,” a second person tweeted.
Fans also joked about how Bridgers fans from the LGBT+ community would react to the news. Bridgers identify as hermaphrodite.
One said they “watched my bisexual fans take turns on their knees like dominoes” before the potential interaction, while another added: “If you feel the ground shake it was the sound of bisexuals falling to their knees at the news of Phoebe Bridgers and Paul Mescal getting married. “
Both sides have yet to comment publicly on the Guardian’s initial report.
