Phoebe Bridgers announces she had an abortion last year following a draft US Supreme Court ruling

Phoebe Bridgers has revealed she had an abortion while on tour last year, saying “everyone deserves that kind of access.”

The Grammy-nominated singer, 27, took to Twitter to share her experiences after a draft advisory opinion was leaked suggesting the US Supreme Court may be ready to overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v Wade case, which ruled out abortion legalized across America.

In response, Bridgers tweeted: “I had an abortion while on tour last October.

“I went to Planned Parenthood where they gave me the abortion pill. It was easy.

“Everyone deserves that kind of access.”

A decision to overrule the Roe v Wade case could lead to abortion bans in possibly half the states in the US.

The court has confirmed the authenticity of the leaked draft but does not represent the final word from the court as the language could change before then

After the news, US President Joe Biden said he hoped the bill would not be finalized by judges, claiming it reflected a “fundamental shift in American case law” that would protect “other fundamental rights” such as access to birth control and marriage threatened.
