Picard’s head back is no problem for Patrick Stewart

Initially – as stated in Guardians – Stewart doesn’t want to return to Picard. He played the role in seven television seasons and in four feature films. He felt there was nothing left to discover. Indeed, Jean-Luc Picard was already a full-fledged adult by the time “Star Trek: The Next Generation” began; he’s mature, smart, and in control. As a character, Picard wasn’t made for much development. He is an example of unwavering professionalism. Unless a crisis is produced, Picard will have very little care to come to terms with; he was already there. When Stewart heard that the new show would catch up with Picard in retirement — he’s not in uniform, not a star ship captain — he became intrigued. It seems that a Picard is a lot older than an older Stewart.

However, “Star Trek,” even more so than most shows and series, is steadfast in its dedication to continuity. The Guardian asked Stewart if he had done any in-depth research to recall the character’s details, or was he simply recalling Picard’s memories:

“More and more. As the seven seasons of TNG passed, the distinction between Jean-Luc Picard and Patrick Stewart became thinner and thinner, until I couldn’t tell where he had left or where I had started. I was believe a lot, and feel a part of that show. is the feel of it.”
