Piers Morgan has vowed an unusual tribute to his friend, cricket legend Shane Warne, as fans paid their respects at Melbourne Cricket Ground overnight.
It was reported on Friday that Shane had died in Thailand at the age of 52 after a suspected heart attack.
The former athlete is said to have been enjoying a “boys holiday” on Koh Samui when friends found him unconscious in a villa at the resort.

Commenting on the unusual display, broadcaster Piers, who had been a close friend of Shane, tweeted: “Among all the flowers left behind by Shane Warne’s statue…a fan left a beer can, meat pie and a pack of cigarettes. Brilliant,” he added, followed by applause emojis and a picture of the tribute.
The post shared some fans with some calling it “inappropriate”.
“The Three Things That Can Lead To A Heart Attack – What’s The Real Point Of Leaving Them?” answered one.
“Someone who dies really brings out the worst in people,” agreed another.
“Homage to what probably killed him,” complained a third.
However, another called it a “very fitting tribute.”
“That made me laugh out loud. Shane would have loved it I’m sure,” they added.

Shane won 708 Test wickets, the second-highest of all time, in 145 games over his illustrious 15-year international career.
He also won 293 wickets in one-day internationals and played a role in helping Australia win the 1999 World Cup.
When the news broke on Friday, former boyfriend Piers wrote: “Absolutely devastated to hear that Shane Warne has died aged just 52 of a heart attack.
“He was a brilliant cricketer, a brilliant entertainer, a fantastic guy and a great loyal friend for many years. Just good news. RIP Warnie, I enjoyed every minute with you.”

Shane was found dead on holiday in Koh Samui, Thailand on Friday night.
Police said four friends who were staying with him fought to save his life for 20 minutes after they found him unconscious at his villa.
The group reportedly spotted Shane trying to wake him up for dinner around 5 p.m. local time.
An ambulance took Shane to Thai International Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Shane’s manager confirmed his death in a statement, telling reporters the father of three could not be resuscitated.
“It is with great sadness that we announce that Shane Keith Warne passed away today, Friday 4th March, in Koh Samui, Thailand of a suspected heart attack.
“Shane was found unresponsive at his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he was unable to be resuscitated. The family is asking for privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course.”
He leaves behind his three children Brooke, Summer and Jackson.
