Piers Morgan banned from Russia on Kremlin sanctions list

BROADCASTER Piers Morgan has been included in a list of the last journalists and politicians to be banned from Russia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has issued a list of 39 newly sanctioned people who are no longer allowed to enter the country.

The action comes in response to UK sanctions against Russian ministers, officials and members of influential families linked to the Kremlin following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Former Prime Minister David Cameron, Labor leader Sir Keir Starmer, BBC presenter Huw Edwards and ITV presenter Robert Peston were among those who joined Piers Morgan on the sanctions list.

Piers, who grew up in Newick, said Russia “wasn’t on my immediate holiday to-do list”.

Russia claimed these individuals on the sanctions list had contributed to “London’s hostile course aimed at demonizing our country and isolating it internationally.”

In a statement, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said: “As has been stated more than once, the UK’s harmful acts in spreading Russophobia, spreading false information about our country and supporting the neo-Nazi Kiev regime will receive an appropriate and decisive response from the Russian side.

“The decision to confront is a conscious decision by the British political establishment, which bears all responsibility for the consequences.”

The statement also said work is continuing to expand the list.

Earlier this year, Russia sanctioned 287 MPs, including 12 from Sussex, in retaliation for sanctions against Russian politicians.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in April that MPs should regard their inclusion on the list as a “badge of honour”. Piers Morgan banned from Russia on Kremlin sanctions list
