Roman Abramovich added to UK sanctions list

Piers Morgan was arrested on social media after apparently changing his stance towards Roman Abramovich.

The Chelsea the owner, who has signaled his intention to sell the club, has found himself in the spotlight in recent weeks for his alleged links to Vladimir Putin.

Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine witnessed the country’s financiers under his command fire and Abramovich saw their assets frozen by the UK Government on Thursday.

Even so, he has retained the affection of Chelsea fans, who have seen their club enjoy huge success thanks to his wealth.

They named him in victory at Burnley over the weekend and did so again in a win over Norwich City on Thursday night.

Morgan took aim at away fans, made clear about Twitter : “Have they chanted Putin? #Morons”.

Piers Morgan tweeted in 2014 how he wished Roman Abramovich had bought Arsenal

However, the broadcaster, Arsenal a fan, said in 2014 that he wished the Russian billionaire had poured his luck on the Gunners.

Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003 – since then the Blues have won 5 times Premier League Arsenal’s trophies as well as a host of other trophies.

Morgan tweeted earlier: “I wish Abramovich had bought Arsenal #cash #winner #fan”.

His apparent turn has seen an extremely obstinate individual called out on social media.

Blues coach Thomas Tuchel has admitted that chanting Abramovich’s name was ill-timed during the pause in support of those in Ukraine.

“This is not the time to do this,” he said at the weekend. If we show solidarity then we should show solidarity together.

“We are knee-deep in each other, if someone from our club dies, we show our respect. Not a time to give other messages.

“We do this because we are a club. We show our respect and we need our fans to commit to applauding this moment.

“We do it for the Ukrainian people and do not have a second opinion on the situation. They have our thoughts and our support and we should stand together as a club. .”

Chelsea have seen a flurry of sanctions imposed against them, meaning they will not be able to consider any transfers or contract extensions with their current players.

There will also be no tickets on sale for matches at Stamford Bridge while the club’s shop is closed immediately.

Captain Cesar Azpilicueta said to Premier League production : “I have to admit that this is not an ordinary day. We cannot control this.

“We come here and focus on the game and we know we have to fight for the three points. We have to forget what’s going on outside.”
