Piers Morgan has called on attendees at the 2022 Oscars to donate their generous goodie bags to a good cause.

The former Good Morning Britain host, 56, has suggested that those on stage tonight raffle their $140,000 gift bags to help refugees currently fleeing the crisis in Ukraine.

Piers took to Twitter hours before Sunday night’s awards ceremony began to reflect that instead of “virtuous tearful speeches,” Hollywood A-listers should be auctioning off their “disgustingly ostentatious” goodie bags to help amid the humanitarian crisis.

Nominees and presenters at this year’s annual awards ceremony are presented with some incredible freebies – including the controversial addition of a piece of Scottish land.

The plots, which cost £150 per 100 square feet, also come with permission to use the title ‘Laird’ or ‘Lady of Glencoe’ and celebrities can visit whenever they like.

In a tweet to his 7.9 million followers, broadcaster Piers suggested: “Rather than making virtuous, tearful speeches tonight about how much they care about Ukraine, maybe it would be nice if all the Oscar presenters and nominees would auction off their disgustingly ostentatious $140,000 gift bags to raise funds for Ukraine refugees.”

Lord Sugar, who often enjoys online sparring matches with his pal, quoted Piers’ original tweet and sarcastically replied, “Surprised you’re not at the Oscars, you’re a mega-celebrity.”

Piers replied, “I’ve been in 8 films (that’s 8 more than you) that have grossed over $2 billion – so I’m too big for the Oscars.”

The broadcaster later revealed who it would like to see receive one of the coveted trophies at today’s 94th Academy Awards.

Sharing a throwback snap of himself and best actor nominee Will Smith, Piers tweeted, “I really hope Will Smith wins his first Oscar tonight because a) he’s a brilliant actor.

“b) he’s great as Richard Williams in ‘King Richard’ and c) that would mean I played piano for an Oscar winner.”

Amy Schumer will be presenting at today’s ceremony alongside icons Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall.

It’s the first time the Oscars have had a host in three years.

Amy appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show to discuss how she could provide entertainment for the night while raising awareness of the important issues around the world.

“I think there’s definitely pressure in a way to say, ‘This is a holiday, let people forget we only want to have this night,’ but it’s as good that we have so many eyes and ears on this one have a show,” she told the host.

“I think it’s a great opportunity to comment on at least a few things. I have a few jokes that highlight the nature of the current state. I mean, there are so many terrible things happening that it seems difficult to focus on which one.”
