Oscars: Will Smith slams Chris Rock after joking about Jada
Piers Morgan has said he would have beaten Alex Beresford if he hadn’t struck from Good Morning Britain last year.
The former GMB presenter, who left the program after ITV bosses urged him to apologize for comments he made about disbelief in Meghan Markle’s claims in her Oprah interview, took to Twitter to express his opinion to comment on the shocking moment Will Smith slapped Chris Rock live on air.
The actor, who won an Oscar just minutes after the incident, stormed the stage after Chris made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair.
Coming to Will’s defense, Piers blasted the “snowflake bulls***” and said he probably “would have done the same”.
He tweeted: “So much Snowflakey Bullsh*t Re Oscars Smackdown. You may think Will Smith was wrong about beating Chris Rock, but still understand why he did it when he — mistakenly — thought Rock was making fun of his wife’s alopecia in front of a zillion people. I probably would have done the same.”

A more skeptical follower shared a screenshot of the famous moment as he left GMB and tweeted: “Of course you would!”
Piers Quote tweeted the comment, writing, “Ironically, I walked out to keep myself from hitting him…”

However, many other Twitter users weren’t too impressed with one writing: “Honestly nothing to be proud of. Free speech is appreciated by Piers, as long as you agree with what he says.”
Another remarked, “Just because you can understand why he did it doesn’t make it right to do it. He should have walked away. Or go backstage and talk to him.”
ITV weatherman Alex had appeared on GMB after becoming involved in a Twitter row with Piers following the presenter’s comments about Meghan.
It all went downhill, however, as Alex called his behavior “absolutely diabolical” and said Meghan was “eligible for cut”. [Piers] the end”.
Piers got up and walked away, saying he was “done with this” and “can’t do this” – although he eventually returned to the set.

Will has since humbly apologized for his behavior on Sunday, writing on social media: “Violence in all its forms is toxic and destructive. My behavior at the Oscars last night was unacceptable and inexcusable.
“Jokes at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s health was too much for me and I reacted emotionally.
“I want to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I’m embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.
“I also want to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all contestants and all viewers around the world.”
