Kate Garraway says she’s ‘still hoping for a happy ending’

Piers Morgan sent former colleague and girlfriend Kate Garraway a sweet message after her latest documentary aired on Tuesday night.

Piers, 56, worked alongside Kate on Good Morning Britain and took to Twitter on Wednesday to let her know how proud he is of her as she continues to care for her husband around the clock for Derek Draper as he continues to battle the impact of Covid -19.

After watching a documentary titled Caring for Derek – a sequel to last year’s Finding Derek – Piers wrote: “This is an incredibly emotional TV show.

“Keep fighting, Kate – you and your remarkable family are a testament to the power of stoicism, courage and the spirit of never giving up in the face of terrible adversity.” king. Love you all.”

Fans were quick to post their own messages of support, with one user commenting: “It’s so heartbreaking to watch. Derek is a fighter and Kate too. Anyone who’s seen it won’t be dry. eye”.

Piers’ comments echo another Good Morning Britain show by Kate, co-hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard.

The duo said how “proud” they are of the 54-year-old after the documentary aired.

Speaking on Wednesday’s morning show, Susanna called Kate “extraordinary” after what the family has been through over the past two years.

She said: “We’re so proud of our friend Kate, and of course Darcey and Billy and Derek too, because Derek was the one going through it not him.

“God, the care Derek’s family and family has given him is absolutely phenomenal. We love you all. Sending you so much love this morning.”

Like Piers, Ben took to Twitter to share his message of support, writing: “I have no words to express how proud + inspired by my amazing friend @kategarraway.

“It’s a difficult personal story but one she shares with the voiceless. I’m lucky to call her a friend, even if I have to constantly clean up after her. “

Former political doctor Derek was hospitalized in March 2020 after contracting Covid.






Caring For Derek is an emotional movie for viewers

He was then placed in a coma by doctors and hospitalized for 374 days before going home in April 2021.

He is currently in the care of Kate and other caregivers and the presenter recently revealed Derek sleeps between 16 and 20 hours a day and will die if he is not helped for 72 hours.

Speaking on the documentary, Kate explained how stress has now become her daily life.

She revealed: “People are really nice and say I’m an inspiration, but I’m really struggling.

“And I think it’s important for people to know that, because I’m sure they’re having a hard time in their lives, either way.”
