Joachim Rønning said they made a very short list, “and at the top of that list was Sir Paul McCartney.” The big question is how to get the offer for him. Espen Sandberg told EW:
“Johnny, of course, has his phone number, just like you. I don’t know what clubs these guys are from, but he’s got a phone number, so he said, ‘You’re welcome.’ You know, I’ll text him! It’s okay.’ So he did! He just texted Sir Paul, and Sir Paul texted back. And it went back and forth a bit, and jargon. their more and more pirate-y, and it’s like, this is going to happen!”
We all really need to see that text string. It was a huge gain, but even bigger when McCartney sang a sea slum (something that would become all the rage during the pandemic), giving Rønning the opportunity to record a song by the former Beatles. He called it “a big, big moment.” It was an experience to be in the same room with a legend, to hear him perform.
As Sandberg put it, Jack Sparrow has a “pretty amazing family tree. I’d love to be at that family reunion. It must have been a fun party.”
