Plan to get more kids to visit their local library and make some noise

The iconic comic book Beano is fueling the myth that the library is a silent place where even a whisperer raises an eyebrow and is met with a harsh ‘shhh’. It launched a campaign Libraries Aloud

Children think library nothing to shout about as they believe no noise is allowed.

More than half are stalled by the idea of ​​librarians asking them to put down tubes while one in four have never even set foot in.

To dispel the myth that silence is enforced, Beano launched a campaign called Libraries Aloud.

“We are delighted that Beano is celebrating the joy and noise being ‘made loud’ in libraries and hope it encourages people to plan to visit their local library soon.”

It comes as another study reveals bedtime stories stay alive and well with mothers and fathers reading to their children four times a week.

A survey of 1,000 parents with children under the age of 10 found that 82% regularly read to their children.

A quarter used sound effects to liven things up with kids saying “silly noises” were their favorite, followed by animal sounds and monster sounds.

One in three parents who tried to skip bits to get to the end faster was disqualified.
