PlayStation denies disappointing PS VR2 sales and production stops

It took five months for the first PS VR to sell 1 million units, with sales over the headset’s lifetime reaching 5 million.

However, PlayStation predicted bigger sales for its upcoming headset, which will feature hardware to match top-of-the-line PC-based VR technology.

PS VR2 caters to consumers who own a PS5 and want to play the upcoming VR titles on their current generation console.

While it has been difficult for people to buy PS5, Sony recently announced that the console will no longer suffer from stock shortages.

Due to the increased production of the PS5, Sony prepared to develop 2 million PS VR2 headsets well in advance of the launch.

According to a report by BloombergPlayStation had urged its manufacturer to halve production after disappointing pre-order sales.

However, Sony has denied this claim, stating that there is “excitement from PlayStation fans about the upcoming launch”.

Pre-orders began in November, ready for the headset’s launch February 22, 2023.

PlayStation fans were disappointed when the price of the PS VR2 was first announced, as it’s more expensive than the most expensive PS5.

The disc-based console recently received a price increase and consoles are now selling for around £480.

However, the headset is even more expensive, costing £529.99 ($549.99).

The most popular VR headsets currently on the market are available at a lower price.

The most popular headset right now is the Meta Quest 2 which is available for £399.99.

This headset sold 3 million units at launch, which may be one of the reasons why PlayStation predicted a big launch for its upcoming VR headset.

PlayStation recently announced 32 games that will be available when PS VR2 launches, although few of them are exclusives.
