‘Please help us find our loved ones’ – Families of the ‘disappeared’ fear time is running out in their quest for closure

To passers-by they may seem like any other part of rural Ireland, but remote fields in Counties Meath, Monaghan and Louth are believed to hold the key to closing one of the Troubles’ most horrifying chapters.

During the violence, between 1972 and 1985, paramilitary groups killed, buried and secretly buried 17 people who became known as the “disappeared”. Their families were never told what happened to them.
