Plug and play launches in the UK

Plug and Play, the global platform for business innovation and early-stage investors, launched in the UK. Through partnerships with leading UK brands – including founding partners Jaguar Land Rover and BT Group – Plug and Play will build and deliver innovation programs based on collaboration between companies and start-ups. Plug and Play also aims to make up to 30 investments per year in early-stage UK start-ups.

Founded in 2006, Plug and Play is headquartered in Silicon Valley. The goal is to scale innovation by enabling leading companies to collaborate and partner with the brightest startups. Plug and Play has helped more than 500 organizations from around the world build, execute and scale business innovation programs in more than 40 locations, spanning industries as diverse as fintech, insurance technology, IoT, brands and retail, mobility, new materials and Focus on Packaging, Sustainability, Food & Beverage, Travel & Hospitality, Health & Supply Chain.

Plug and Play is also one of the world’s most active early-stage investors, backing more than 250 startups each year along with the world’s top VCs. Notable companies early on supported by Plug and Play include PayPal, Dropbox, N26, Lending Club, Hippo, Rappi, Honey, Applyboard, Flutterwave, Turing, and many more.

The Plug and Play UK team, led by Kieran Borrett, will work with leading companies to support their innovation ambitions and help UK-based start-ups access the world’s largest network of companies and investors. With British founding partner Jaguar Land Rover, Plug and Play will build a global open innovation platform with a focus on the mobility and sustainability ecosystem. The aim is to bring together leading companies and other ecosystem players to evaluate and test new technologies and business models developed by start-ups to enable companies to solve business challenges and seize new opportunities. The platform will also help Jaguar Land Rover achieve its ambitious target of net zero by 2039.

The Plug and Play UK program begins with a kick-off day on June 21st, with additional corporate partners to be announced shortly.

Working with BT Group as a founding partner, Plug and Play will support BT’s Startup Partnerships team in collaborating with the best startups across a range of ecosystems, extending beyond the core telecoms markets, including enterprise technology, healthcare, fintech, drones and products and services that can leverage the company’s market-leading 5G network and accelerate the company’s mission to stay connected.
