P&O FERRIES canceled all services this morning, in the wake of reports of a “major corporate announcement” – leaving passengers stranded at ports.
The company, which is the leading ferry between Dover and Calais, and also organizes several other routes from the UK, took to Twitter to inform customers that their trips would be disrupted.
A statement from P&O to its employees earlier today reads: “We will be making a major corporate announcement today, with the support of our DP World shareholder. , will ensure the long-term viability of P&O Ferries.
“To facilitate this announcement, all of our ships have been asked to unload their passengers and cargo and await further instructions.
“That means we are expecting all our ports to experience severe disruption today, so please let us know and we will provide more information. in an announcement to all colleagues later today.”
Passengers with trips booked today have been told their travel will be provided by alternative ferry companies, such as DFDS and Irish Ferries.
A tweet on the company’s Twitter page said: “Our port crews will guide you and travel will be arranged through an alternative operator.
“We apologize for the inconvenience this will have on your itinerary plans.”
Kingston MP upon Hull Karl Turner tweeted in response to the flight cancellation: “This is troubling the crew and their families. I am in contact with ratings and officers union regarding this. .”
Those planning to board the P&O ferry this morning expressed their disappointment on twitter.
One person wrote: “But who will tell us and when please? We have been on the 6:30 ferry, sitting here since 5:30 and no one has explained anything.”
Another way: “Alternative operator doesn’t know anything either! Some would obviously be great.”
Another added: “Sitting in Calais so angry!”
P&O Ferries has denied it will be liquidated following the suspension of rides.
A spokesman for the airline said: “P&O Ferries will not liquidate.
“We have asked all the ships to come along in preparation for a corporate announcement.
“Until then, services from P&O will not be available and we are advising travelers of alternatives.”
