THE Pokémon Company has announced a new Pokémon that looks oddly similar to Diglett, but it states it’s not a new Paldean form.
A worm-like creature made an appearance at the World Pokémon Ecological Society webinar held today (September 28).
The Pokémon has been featured on the beaches of Paldea and will appear in the upcoming Pokémon games, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
It’s a long, worm-like Pokémon that has the same small black eyes and round pink nose as Gen 1 Pokémon Diglett.
Diglett already has an alternate form, his Alolan form, which is a Steel/Ground type.
Though it has a face and emerges from the ground like Diglett, the announcement confirmed that it’s not an alternate form for the Mole Pokémon.
Instead, a completely new type of Pokémon is to be introduced for the Paldea region.
The announcement states: “This Pokémon that lives on the beach or in the sea of the Paldea region would be Wiglett.
“Although they appeared to be a Paldean form of Diglett, we learned that they live and feed differently as if they were a completely different Pokemon.
“According to the research, it’s thought to be coincidental that they have similar bodies, as they both burrow into the ground and into the sand.”
Wiglett has a white body and can extend it high off the ground without fully surfacing.
The Pokémon Company hasn’t updated the official website yet, but the announcement on stream suggests Wiglett will be the official name.
This portion of the stream was announced in Japanese with English subtitles, and both announced the Wiglett name.
The new Pokémon was apparently discovered by Jacq, a new character in the series.
He will be your class and biology teacher and is also developing entries for the new Rotom Pokédex.
That means the announcement in the stream could also be Wiglett’s official Pokédex entry.
