The hit video game Pokémon Legends: Arceus is getting an anime adaptation.
Announced on the game’s official Japanese website, the series will launch online later this year. An official statement (translated by Google) confirms that the show will be “an origin story set in the Sinnoh region” and “slated for release in early summer 2022.”
The series will be produced by WIT Studio, which worked on Pokémon the Movie: Everyone’s Story as well as the hit anime show Attack on Titan.
Along with the announcement, The Pokémon Company has teased a glimpse of the upcoming anime with a pretty cool visual (below). We see a trainer trudging through a snowy forest while glancing in the direction of a Pokémon that appears to be following them – the shadow of a Hisuian Zorua looming ominously in the snow behind them.
Hisuian Zorua is a regional variant of the popular Pokémon that can only be found in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
Described as an “online series,” it’s likely the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Arceus anime will premiere on the official Pokémon YouTube channel later this year.
This will be similar to last year’s release of Pokémon Evolutions – an eight-part series that explores different Pokémon regions in celebration of the game’s 25th anniversary.
Arceus takes the Pokémon series back in time, placing players in the history of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl’s Sinnoh, in a time when Pokémon were feared more than friends.
IGN’s review of Pokémon Legends: Arceus describes it as “an ambitious improvement that has successfully revolutionized the Pokémon capture and battle experience, but is unfortunately set in a dull, empty world empty and sometimes boring.”
All Pokemon confirmed in Scarlet and Violet
Meanwhile, Pokémon Day 2022 has seen some big announcements, including the upcoming Gen 9 games Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, as well as a new Daybreak update for Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
