Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: release date, trailer, gameplay, news, etc

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are the next big games in the beloved monster hunting series. They are being developed by none other than Game Freak, the trusted mainstay of the main Pokemon games.

The Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield entries released in late 2019 gave us our first look at the real open world that Pokemon 3D adventure fans have loved for years. And following the success of the recent Pokemon Legends Arceus entry, Scarlet and Violet continue this trend by bringing us far-reaching adventures in the Pokemon world.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Release Date

Nintendo has a habit of quietly working on many projects and announcing them just a few months before their expected launch date. Covid-19 has impacted video game development massively, with game lag announcements occurring almost every other week.

However, Nintendo isn’t immune to outside world events, or makes the mistake of discussing and revealing projects long before they’re ready. For example, Metroid Dread was first mentioned as a potential DS game before finally being announced as a Switch game last year. And Metroid Prime 4 has suffered many setbacks during development, first announced nearly 5 years ago.

Scarlet and Violet seems to have been produced alongside other Game Freak titles recently and will be released in end of 2022. Nintendo’s announcement was earlier than they were used to, meaning they must be very confident the game will reach us during the holiday season.

Where to pre-order Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Retailers often jolt the excitement of any big game announcement by opening pre-orders early. And global supply issues mean more people are playing games than ever before, and it’s quite common to see major retailers without stock of all popular Nintendo Switch games. Since there is no official release date for Scarlet and Violet yet, there are currently no pre-orders available. Bookmark this page as we will update it as soon as any trusted sellers open pre-orders.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Trailer

Nintendo and The Pokemon Company revealed the existence of the game at the end of February with a unique and fun trailer that captures a lot of what we love about Pokemon.

It’s a mix of live action and in-engine gameplay, starting with an office security guard investigating unusual sounds and lights, before he accidentally walks into a dusty but magical art studio. The game’s trailer was cut to show the colorful new environments that players will be able to explore in Scarlet and Violet, with familiar Pokemon rendered in rich, detailed 3D designs.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Game

For now, Nintendo and Game Freak have yet to reveal details about the characters and worlds we’ll be able to explore in Scarlet and Violet. Looking at the full stream from Pokemon Company can give us an idea of the trends they will continue to set off.

Pokemon Sword and Shield is set in a land inspired by the UK, bringing variety and depth to the world we can investigate and the adventures to be had. It’s possible that Scarlet and Violet will be inspired by a real-world area, and focus on the protagonist’s development and the journey they’ll be on.

However, Game Freak has shared that we start with one of three starter Pokemon: Sprigatito, Fuecoco or Quaxly. These Pokemon belong to classes grass, fire, and water, respectively. It’s still going to be a while before we know if any of these particular Pokemon would be preferable to using from the start, but the gameplay will most likely be balanced by tweaking for any whichever choice you make.

While we wait for Scarlet and Violet to now begin, it’s still a great time to check out Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield. There is also the recent Pokemon Legends Arceus, which was released to critical acclaim.
