Police appeal to find missing family in Sussex

A missing aristocrat and her sex offender partner are believed to have been camping with their newborn baby in the Sussex countryside, police said.

Constance Marten, 35, and from a wealthy family with royal family ties, has lived an isolated life with boyfriend Mark Gordon, 48, since they met in 2016.

The couple and their child went missing early last month, and neither of them have received medical attention since.

The Metropolitan Police have offered a £10,000 reward for finding information about the trio’s whereabouts, saying concerns for the well-being of all three “continue to mount”.

In an update today, the Met said it believes the missing trio were camping in the countryside near Newhaven and elsewhere in Sussex.

The service said it received around 300 calls at the operation to locate the couple and their baby, but “they did not result in the couple and their baby being located.”

Addressing the missing couple directly, Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford said: “Constance and Mark, your baby has been exposed to the elements for the first month of his short life when he should be safe and warm and most importantly seen by medical professionals.

“After a month you must run out of money. Please pick up the phone and at least let us know that you are fine.

“We are ready to come to you and ensure that you and the baby receive medical attention.”

He also insisted that people should have no qualms about submitting information, urging them to do “the right thing”.

He said: “If you’ve seen the family, if you’ve given them directions, if they’ve gotten into your taxi or come into your shop to buy food, drink or nappies – no matter how small it may seem – get on please touch one.

“Also, please be assured that if they have paid you to provide a service, a ride, accommodation or anything else, you are in no trouble whatsoever. We just need you to let us know what you know so we can find you and make you safe.”

The police search for the family was sparked when officers were called to a burning car on the M61 in Bolton on January 5.

It turned out the couple left the car when it broke down and took a taxi to Liverpool and on to Harwich.

The family have since been spotted in east London before moving on to north London and Newhaven and were spotted in the town of Sussex on January 8.
