Police appeal to victims of a racist attack in Eastbourne

POLICE are appealing to a mother and son who were racially abused on a bus to come forward.

A man in his 30s made “racist comments” towards the couple. He also tried to grab the boy’s arms and hit him on the head with a bottle before being told to leave by the bus driver.

It is not known whether the child was injured.

It happened around 7.15pm on Friday evening 15 July on a Stagecoach bus in Cade Street, Eastbourne.

PC Claire Middleton said: “It is important that we help anyone affected by another’s prejudice, ignorance or violence and we will follow up on any information received.”

The man is white with dark short hair and a dark stubble beard.

He wore a black beanie, black Puma logo t-shirt and white shorts.

The boy is between 11 and 14 and had a scooter with him.

Sussex Police are asking anyone with information to contact either online or telephone 101 quoting serial number 1602 dated 15/07. report and arrange a confidential meeting with their investigators.
