Police have launched a manhunt for a sex offender who is on the run after escaping an open jail.
Gary Butcher, 55, escaped from HMP North Sea camp in Boston, Lincolnshire around 5.30am this morning, police said.
The convict, who is serving a life sentence for aggravated burglary, is described as a white male with a stocky build, brown/grey hair and blue eyes.
He also has a swallow tattoo on his right arm and a “Phillip Trina” tattoo on his left arm.
Lincolnshire Police released a mugshot of Butcher in a bid to track him down, saying he may have traveled to the Leicestershire area.
The force said in a statement: “We are asking for your help in locating Gary Butcher, aged 55, who escaped from HMP North Sea Camp in Boston.
“He is a convicted sex offender and is serving a life sentence for aggravated burglary.”
Lead investigating officer, Detective Inspector Paul Coleman, added: “If you have any information regarding his current whereabouts please contact us immediately.
“If you see him please do not approach him and instead call us on 101 quoting Incident 37 of May 31. If it is an emergency, dial 999.”
Butcher broke out of the same prison as Paul Robson, another sex offender, earlier this year.
Robson, who was jailed in 2000 after breaking into and sexually assaulting a woman’s home, was only discovered after a four-day search in Skegness.
