DETECTIVES investigating the death of a father of six at a holiday park investigate possible links to the international drug trade.
Michael McDonagh, 53, from London, has been pronounced dead following an altercation between a group of people at Parkdean Resorts in Camber Sands.
Seven people were arrested on suspicion of his murder and released on conditional bail.
A source told the Irish Mirror that Mr McDonagh, originally from Sligo in Ireland, was “up to his neck on drugs, making considerable sums of money”.
Investigators are examining any connection to human trafficking as part of their investigation.
Mr McDonagh’s family described him as a “loving and supportive husband of 32 years who was taken from us on a family holiday”.
A statement from the family said: “It is impossible to put into words how we are all feeling. Our father was the center of our world and the life and soul of every party.
“My father was such a huge influence not only on our family but also on countless people who knew him throughout his life.
“He came away to make memories with his wife and children and instead we leave with broken hearts and unanswered questions.
“Michael was a kind hearted man who died far too young, leaving behind those who loved him. He will be greatly missed.”
Detective Chief Inspector Emma Vickers said: “My condolences go out to Michael’s family following the tragic events of Friday night.
“A complex and rapid investigation is underway to determine exactly what happened and identify those responsible.
“I understand that incidents like this can have a profound impact on the wider community and I want to reassure that this was an isolated case and we are working tirelessly to find out the full circumstances.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact police via the Sussex Police website or by telephone on 101 quoting Operation Molton.”
Police are also encouraging anyone with relevant images or video footage to upload them online to the Sussex Police section of the Major Incident Public Portal at mipp.police.uk.
