POLICE have issued a statement after a group of caravans were sighted in a village green.
West Sussex County Council confirmed there are 24 caravans and motorhomes parked at Goring Greensward.
Gas canisters, deckchairs and other items were also seen on the village green in Marine Drive, Goring on Wednesday July 6th.
“All have been served with a notice asking them to vacate the land,” said a spokeswoman for West Sussex County Council.
“If they don’t do this, there will be legal proceedings.
“Together with Sussex Police we will continue to monitor the site.”
A police spokesman said officers were aware of the caravans.
“We are responding to reports of an unauthorized camp at Goring Gap on Marine Drive,” he said.
“Our officers, who work in conjunction with local authorities, have attended and are committed to the group.”
The square is maintained by Worthing Borough Council, with a sign in the park asking people not to enter with unauthorized vehicles.
