Police are issuing an update on the collision which has closed the A27 near Lewes

POLICE have issued an update after emergency services were called to a collision on the A27.

Police and ambulance teams were called to the scene of the incident, with long queues of traffic stretching into Lewes town centre.

A witness at the scene told The Argus: “The BMW had damage front and rear and the motorhome was on its side.

“The police did a fantastic job closing the road. The ambulance was also there and seemed very controlled and calm.

“Everyone was diverted back to Brighton, resulting in long queues on the A27.”

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said no injuries were reported in the collision, which took place around 8.35am.

She said: “Emergency services were responding to a report of a two-vehicle collision near Ashcombe roundabout, Lewes, at around 8.35am on Saturday 1 October. No injuries were reported.

“The road was temporarily closed to allow emergency services to be on site and the vehicles involved to be recovered.”

The scene of the accident has since been cleared and the road has been reopened.
