Police were called to Liverpool’s team hotel in the early hours after it was attacked by firecrackers ahead of the crucial Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pyrotechnics were detonated near the Titanic Hotel at Stanley Dock in Liverpool around 1:45am on Sunday. Merseyside Police said officers were called after “a few firecrackers” were set off outside the Regent Road hotel.

An empty box of firecrackers was found on the sidewalk nearby. A police spokesman said police spoke to a man at the scene and took him home. No arrests were made, but high-visibility patrols were conducted after the incident. Liverpool play Wolves at Anfield in the last game of the Premier League season at 4pm.

Liverpool stayed at the Titanic Hotel on Liverpool’s Stanley Dock.

A win for the Reds would open up the possibility of a title triumph should Manchester City, who are playing at the same time, fall by a point to Aston Villa.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are still chasing an unprecedented quadruple victory, having already lifted the Carabao Cup and FA Cup on penalties against Chelsea at Wembley and in next week’s Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Kop boss Klopp said on Friday if anyone had suggested in August that their season would go like this they would have laughed at them.

“Imagine someone telling you before the season you are in all three cup finals and want to fight for the championship,” he said before the Wolves visit. “You would say, ‘Yeah, good luck with that.’ Not really possible, but the guys did it – nurtured by the people here in the building (training ground), by our fans, by all those things.

“It was tough but great. It’s absolutely a pleasure to be a part of. Being part of this group is extraordinary. By the group I don’t just mean the players, we are here in the group building. That’s crazy.

“Working with these people is a pure pleasure. Being where we are is so rare that it cannot be planned. It’s a fantastic time for a Liverpool fan and now we need to make sure we enjoy the last two games too.

“The most beautiful thing in football is winning football matches, it makes everything a lot easier. Two big games are coming up, one right on Sunday and we need to make sure we’re prepared for that.”
