Police patrol Denton Island, Newhaven amid anti-social behavior

POLICE have stepped up neighborhood patrols amid a “devastating impact” caused by antisocial behavior.

Lewes Police officers have increased their presence on Denton Island in Newhaven to combat the problem.

Police said the increased presence follows a spate of reports of antisocial behavior at night made by the public over the weekend.

“We know that if left unaddressed, anti-social behavior can have a devastating impact on local communities and individuals,” a police spokesman said.

“Did you know that we are currently conducting a number of special operations to address antisocial behavior issues?”

Operation Downsway includes enforcement and reconnaissance patrols and stop checks with the goal of raising awareness of traffic violations.

“These patrols will include regular speed checks for driver distraction, such as mobile phone use, to address road safety concerns and keep Sussex roads safe for users,” the spokesman added.

Meanwhile, Operation Blitz is a weekly anti-social behavior patrol that sees dedicated officers taking to the streets in areas where anti-social behavior and driving have been on the rise and are being reported.

The spokesman encouraged residents to continue reporting antisocial behavior.

“Residents of Lewes and Seahaven can call 07989188960 between 4pm and 10pm to report anti-social behavior directly to officers who are patrolling the district,” the spokesman added.

Earlier this week officers from Brighton and Hove Police increased their presence in and around Western Road, Western Terrace and Norfolk Square amid mounting reports of anti-social behaviour.

Over the past month, police have also been conducting foot patrols by the sea in St Aubyns, Hove, and stepping up foot patrols in and around Linden Park in Littlehampton.
