Police statement following the A27 rush hour accident in Brighton

Police have issued a statement following an accident that resulted in miles of traffic on the A27.

Traffic was brought to a virtual standstill after a vehicle collided with the median along the westbound motorway between Carden Avenue (Hollingbury/Ditchling Junction) and the A23 London Road this morning.

The accident, which closed the road during rush hour, caused severe delays of nearly half an hour for motorists on their morning commute, with traffic stretching more than three miles beyond Falmer.

A second incident compounded delays for drivers after a car broke down on the westbound A27 Falmer Hill off the B2123 The Drove at Falmer/Rottingdean Junction.

Traffic also built up along the eastbound road for a time as ‘onlookers’ saw the huge traffic jams spreading to neighboring streets in Brighton.

A police spokesman confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
