Anna Karen, 85, who became a favorite for her character Olive in On The Buses and her aunt Sal from EastEnders, died last night in a house fire

This is the house where actress Anna Karen tragically died after a fire tore through her east London property.
The 85-year-old is known for playing Olive in the ’70s comedy On The Buses and for playing Aunt Sal, Peggy Mitchell’s older sister in EastEnders.
The London Fire Brigade arrived at the house shortly after 10.30pm last night to battle the blaze.
They got the fire on the ground floor of the terraced house under control in less than an hour but tragically it was too late to save Anna.
Anna has lived in London since the age of 17 and the humble home where she died is in Ilford.
A friend of Anna’s family told MailOnline of the tragedy: “We are truly appalled by the news of Anna.”
A spokesman for London Fire Brigade said: “Sadly, one woman has died following a house fire on Windsor Road in Ilford.
“Part of the ground floor of the house in the middle of the terrace was damaged by fire.
“Sadly, a woman died at the scene.

“The brigade was called at 10.40pm and the fire was brought under control by 2338. Three fire engines and about 20 firefighters from Ilford and Barking fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation. .”
Anna was born Ann McCall in Durban, South Africa to an Irish father and an English mother.
After developing a passion for acting and performing, she moved to London and enrolled at the London School of Dramatic Art.
She returned to Albert Square in January 2017 as the absurd Aunt Sal.
She became a fan favorite because of her quick-witted nature.

The actress first appeared on EastEnders in 1996 and previously had two roles in two Carry On films – Carry On Camping and Carry On Loving.
Celebrity friends shared their shock at Anna’s passing, with Barbara Windsor’s widow Scott Mitchell leading the way.
“I am deeply saddened and shocked to hear that Anna has passed away,” he told MailOnline.
“Barbara and Anna are best friends for life and Anna has always been someone I consider to be Barbara’s only real girlfriend.
“Anna has watched Barbara go through every stage of her life and their late-night phone calls together before Barbara became ill, will always be an unforgettable memory for me to hear them bring the world to life. about the right.

“Anna and I have kept in regular contact since Barbara passed away and she was a good friend and supported me when things were tough and we talked a few weeks ago. It was a fun conversation. and how optimistic I think she seems.”
