Portal Co-Writer Erik Wolpaw Wants Valve To Let Him Work On Portal 3: “I’m Not Getting Any Younger”

Portal 1 & 2 co-writer Erik Wolpaw has expressed his desire to start work on Portal 3, but warns that actually getting it off the ground at Valve could be difficult.

As reported by VGC, Wolpaw appeared on the Kiwi Talkz podcast and ended his performance by saying, “We need to launch Portal 3. This is my message to… whoever.”

He went on to say that he’s not getting any younger and that if Valve wanted to do a Portal 3 with one of the original team members, it should greenlight the project sooner rather than later.

“I’m not getting any younger,” said Wolfpaw. “We’re getting to the point where it’s crazy to think about [that we’re] We will literally be too old to work on Portal 3 so we should just do it.”

In addition to working on the Portal franchise, Wolpaw has also written on Half-Life 2: Episode One and Two, Left 4 Dead, and Half-Life Alyx, so one would assume he has some power to push Valve into action. Unfortunately, it’s still not that simple. While he admits he would “love to” work on Portal 3, he understands he can’t “do it alone”.

“Oh, I could advocate for that […] It might help a bit, but the problem is [Valve has] 300 employees and I don’t know the exact breakdown – how many of them on the production side versus the steam business side versus the legal versus whatever,” Wolpaw explained.
