Prediction Italy vs England: How will the Nations League game go tonight?

England have something to prove tonight in Milan in their penultimate game against Italy before heading to Qatar for the World Cup.

Gareth Southgate’s side are playing their first games since going four games without a win in June, losing twice to Hungary and drawing against Italy and Germany.

The results mean England will be relegated from the Nations League group if they lose to Italy tonight, as they are three points behind the Azzurri with only Monday’s game against Germany at Wembley remaining.

England open their World Cup season against Iran on November 21 and after a string of poor performances in June, Southgate will be looking to restore the feel-good factor ahead of the tournament.

Here’s everything you need to know.

When does Italy play England?

The game will kick off at 19:45 BST on Friday 25 September at the San Siro in Milan.

How can I view it?

It will be broadcast live on Channel 4 from 7pm. It will also be available as a live stream on All 4.

What’s new from the England team?

Kalvin Phillips’ injury and Jordan Henderson’s fitness concerns have opened the door to Declan Rice in midfield for Jude Bellingham.

Aaron Ramsdale was set to replace the injured Jordan Pickford in goal and Eric Dier is expected to start in defence, with options for Reece James and Ben Chilwell at full-back.

Fikayo Tomori could start ahead of Harry Maguire, but Kieran Trippier could also come in if Southgate decides to play a back five.

Harry Maguire and Raheem Sterling were set to start, meaning Ivan Toney may have to wait to make his debut off the bench.

Phil Foden, Mason Mount, Bukayo Saka, Jarrod Bowen and Jack Grealish will fight for the last spot on the grid.

Expected Lineups

Italy: Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Bastoni, Bonucci, Emerson; Jorginho, Barella, Tonali; Raspadori, Scamacca, Gnonto

UK: Ramsdale; James, Walker, Dier, Maguire, Saka; Rice, Bellingham; Sterling, Kane, Foden

Italy: 2/1

Draw: 9/4

United Kingdom: 11/18

England are overdue, but what has been overlooked is that their four-game winless streak in June marked the end of a long season. Southgate’s squad should be refreshed and look much stronger on paper than their Italian counterparts. England wins with goals from Kane and Sterling.
