Pregnant woman fatally shot, four others injured at birthday party in Texas

During a birthday party in Texas, a pregnant woman was fatally shot and four others were injured.

Houston police responded around 1 a.m. Saturday at Margaret Jenkins Park when the birthday celebration ended deadly.

“We have received reports of multiple shots being fired by our ShotSpotter technology,” Houston Deputy Police Commissioner Ernest Garcia said during a press conferencewhich refers to a type of gunshot detection system used in many cities.

“There were several groups in the park and some sort of altercation ensued. At some point during this altercation, several people pulled out guns and started shooting.”

Autumn Vallian, 21, was killed in the shooting. Her family told ABC affiliate KTRK. She was five months pregnant.

The woman’s mother, Ebony Vallian, told KTRK that they tried to leave before the violence broke out.

“I looked back and my baby was on the floor. It’s over,” she told the news channel. “[She was] at school, looking for a job. I tried to be something and now she’s gone.”

Of the four injured, three were taken to the hospital. Among them were two of the suspects. The fourth person was hit by a bullet but did not need to be hospitalized.
