Premier League permutations: There’s plenty to play for at the top and bottom on the final day

blank

The Premier League will come to an exciting conclusion on Sunday with the title race, places in the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League and the final relegation zone.

Here we look at who needs what when there is so much left to play on the last day.

title race

Manchester City remain favorites to become champions for the fourth time in five seasons as they are a point ahead of Liverpool on goal difference plus six.

Jurgen Klopp’s four-time chasing Reds need to beat Wolves at Anfield and hope Pep Guardiola’s side drop points against Aston Villa at the Etihad if they want to reclaim the Premier League title and deny City their sixth domestic crown in 11 years.

Champions League

Chelsea are all but certain of third place in the Champions League but fourth is still up for grabs as London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal are both in contention.

Spurs, sitting atop the box with a two-point lead and a vastly superior goal difference, are virtually assured of a place in the top four if they avoid defeat at relegated Norwich. The Gunners, meanwhile, need to win against Everton at the Emirates and pray Antonio Conte’s men slip at Carrow Road or it will be fifth place and a Europa League spot for them.

Europa League/Europa Conference League

Manchester United are on their way to second in the Europa League as they go two points better than seventh-placed West Ham in the final day.

But unless the Red Devils secure all three points at Crystal Palace, the Hammers would send them to the Europa Conference League next season with a win at Brighton thanks to a much better goal difference. No other teams are in the competition.

descent

Everton sealed Premier League safety by beating Palace on Thursday night and the fight for survival is a straight shootout between Leeds and Burnley.

The pair are level on 35 points but the Clarets’ vastly superior goal difference means Leeds, who play in Brentford, need to improve on Burnley’s result at home against Newcastle if they are to retain top-flight status for a third season.
