First League Productions will cut a host of reporters and broadcasters in a mass staff overhaul next season.

The leading international top-tier broadcaster is expected to receive a major shock as a number of staff and freelancers have been told via Zoom that they are no longer needed under the Daily Mail. The source added that an insider told them “brutally” as production prepares for a major revamp of their service.

With the start of the 2022/23 season, the channel is moving away from its normal offering, where it normally provides analysis and reaction to games, and is embracing what it calls “timeless digital content”. These changes mean that some of the usual moderators and journalists are not needed.

Cameramen and logistics workers have also been told they are not renewing their contracts or that their hours will be drastically reduced. It’s a major overhaul of a service that’s hugely popular globally across multiple continents and the UK.

“A lot of people who work four, five days a week have been told they won’t be needed next season, or maybe just for game days and press,” a source told the Mail.

The same person added that they knew something was coming when a big Zoom call was organized. This was followed by further calls to the many affected to outline a bleak future. “It was brutal,” they claimed.

Mark Pougatch and Kelly Cates are among the high-profile journalists who have worked with the productions in the past. James Richardson and Seema Jaswal were also involved in the joint operation which produces and distributes all of the Premier League’s international programming, including broadcasting of all 380 matches.

“Together with the Premier League, we regularly review our content portfolio and further develop our offering for the next season. As a result, there have been some small changes to the workforce structure to accommodate the new operational requirements.”
