President Joe Biden raised tensions in Ukraine by pretending to ‘invite’ Russia to invade

The unfortunate mistake – in his first press conference in 78 days – raised concerns in Ukraine that Biden had severed a secret deal with Vladimir Putin.

And last night’s ruthless Russian President will almost certainly launch a limited attack – always his preferred choice.

Mr. Biden, 79, said: “Russia will be held accountable if it invades. And it depends on what it does.

“It’s one thing if it’s a small encroachment and we (Nato) will end up fighting over what to do and what not to do.

“But if they really do what they can, it will be a disaster for Russia if they continue to invade Ukraine.”

The commentary shows the US getting its hands on a political poker game that could escalate into World War Three.

Befuddled Biden was surprised when his words were read back to him.

A journalist asked if the Democrats would allow Russia to “allow a small infiltration”.

The President laughed and said, “Good question. It sounds like that, doesn’t it? . . ”

Ukraine’s leaders believe that Putin can now come up with an invasion plan within the next few days.

An explosion of rockets and artillery to occupy a land corridor in the Donbas, eastern Ukraine, is expected to have 127,000 Russian troops gathered on the border.

But Prime Minister Boris Johnson quickly stepped in to warn the Kremlin.

“Without a doubt, if Russia makes any kind of inroads into Ukraine, it will be a disaster, not only for Ukraine but also for Russia,” he said.

“It would be a disaster for the world. The UK stands behind Ukraine’s sovereignty and integrity”.

Foreign Minister Liz Truss said the West is in a new Cold War with Russia and China.

‘LIBERATE THE WORLD’

She called on Putin to “give up and step back from Ukraine before he makes a big strategic mistake”.

White House aides then rushed to “clarify” Mr. Biden’s disastrous remarks.

They say by “intrusion” he means a cyberattack rather than invasion.

The aides added that any military move by Russia would be met with a “quick, stern and unified response”.

Analysts say Putin does not want a protracted war that could kill thousands of Russians.

But a “smash and take” raid could attract concessions from the West and Nato supporters. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Russia’s war-building activity continued last night as three amphibious assault ships sailed through the English Channel to bolster their Black Sea fleet.

The Ropucha-class amphibious ships were escorted by HMS Dragon.
