Prince Andrew has reportedly lobbied the Queen to reinstate him as Colonel in the Grenadier Guards, amid claims he believes his HRH title should be restored.

The ailing king, who paid £12million to settle a civil sex assault case in the US this year, wants to appear at official events alongside other family members. The Telegraph reports.

He is also said to have asked for daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie to be given responsibilities as working royals.

A source told the newspaper: “Colonel in the Grenadier Guards was his most coveted title and he wants it back. Having remained Councilor of State, he also believes he should be present at royal and state events.

“Most important to him is his status as HRH and Prince of the Blood, and he believes it should be restored and his position recognized and respected.”

Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the claims.

Despite stepping down from his royal duties following the lawsuit in which Virginia Giuffre accused him of sexual assault when he was 17, he is scheduled to make a public appearance on Monday.

The Duke of York, 62, will perform as a member of the Order of the Garter at the Garter Day service in Windsor.

It comes after he made a controversial appearance at the funeral service for Prince Philip, escorting the Queen to her seat.

However, he missed last weekend’s platinum anniversary celebrations after signing Covid.

The Queen has reportedly held secret talks with Andrew and senior royals to discuss his role.

He resigned from his royal duties and was stripped of his military titles and HRH status earlier this year.

Andrew denied Giuffre’s allegations against him and the settlement is not an admission of guilt.

A senior palace source said meetings were being held behind the scenes to find a role for Prince Andrew away from the public spotlight Daily Mail reported.

The Queen has held family reunions to discuss a role her second son could fulfill without public backlash.
