Prince Charles has revealed the one thing that has kept his mother, the Queen, going throughout her 70-year reign.

The heir to the throne delivered a heartfelt and personal speech paying tribute to the 96-year-old monarch at today’s Platinum Party at the Palace event.

The star-studded concert in front of 22,000 people featured the likes of Diana Ross, Alicia Keys and Eurovision runner-up Sam Ryder on a special stage outside Buckingham Palace.

Speaking at the event, he said he wanted to recognize her lifelong selfless service and express his gratitude on behalf of the nation.

And during the ceremony, he revealed what drives the Queen, especially as she celebrates her platinum anniversary.

He said: “I know what really wakes my mum up in the morning is you all at home watching. Represented here tonight in this great audience.”

He also said: “The scale of the celebrations this evening – and the radiance of warmth and affection throughout this anniversary weekend – is our way of saying thank you – from your family, the country, the Commonwealth, in fact the whole world.

“On behalf of all of us, I wanted to pay my own tribute to your lifetime of selfless service

“Her family now spans four generations. You are our head of state. And you are our mother too.

“Your ‘strength and staying power’ will be sorely missed tonight but I’m sure he’s here in spirit… My dad would have enjoyed the show and joined us wholeheartedly in celebrating all that you continue to do for her country and your people do.

“Looking back, we think of the countless state occasions that are milestones in this nation’s journey. And you will think of red boxes full of government papers at the end of the day.

“You will remember those who ran this country. Indeed to all the countries you serve. And to leaders around the world.

“How things have changed… We think of everything you have done to make the Commonwealth such an important force for good. They continue to make history.”

His speech came after his son Prince William also paid a heartwarming tribute to his grandmother, the Queen, at the concert, which was attended by more than 30 royals.

Charles and William attended with their wives Camilla and Kate, but Prince Harry and Meghan Markle missed the event, saying they would be spending the day privately.
