Prince George smiles for the camera on a British beach in a photo released to mark his ninth birthday.
Behind the lens was his mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, who is known for taking photos of her children to mark their milestones.
Her son is shown beaming earlier this month while wearing a polo-style top with a sandy shoreline and water behind him.
Kate is a keen amateur photographer who accepted an Honorary Life Membership of the Royal Photographic Society in 2017, which recognizes her “talent and enthusiasm”.
The Queen’s Twitter account shared a picture of the monarch with her great-grandson on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during her recent Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Above the picture was a birthday cake emoji and the words “Wishing Prince George a Happy 9th Birthday!”
The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall’s Twitter account retweeted the young prince’s official birthday picture with the words “Happy 9th Birthday to Prince George!” alongside a cupcake emoji.
The young king and future king turns nine on Friday and will reportedly start at Lambrook School in Ascot, near Windsor Castle, later this year.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are rumored to be planning a move to Berkshire to be close to their son and Queen’s new school.
George has had an eventful few months. He performed with his siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis during the bank holiday long weekend in June celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The young royals were spotted on the balcony of Buckingham Palace watching the planes fly past after the Trooping the Color ceremony, and then sat with their parents in the royal box during the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.
William and Kate also took their son to the Wimbledon men’s tennis final where he held the trophy won by Novak Djokovic.
Before the final, the couple and their son welcomed ball boys and girls and military officials to the Millennium Building.
When asked if the young prince was coming to Wimbledon, Kate told her son: “Is this your first time? It is, isn’t it?” to which he replied, “Yes.”
George was also asked who he was supporting and seemed too shy to answer, so William looked at him and whispered “Djokovic” before adding: “We’ll see how long it takes. He will support the winner.”
Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge was born at 4.24pm on 22 July 2013 in the private Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, weighing 8lbs 6oz.
A day later, he made his public debut before the world’s media on the hospital steps, wrapped in a white merino wool scarf, in his mother’s arms.
As the Queen’s great-grandson, he will be the 43rd monarch since William the Conqueror received the Crown of England if, as expected, he follows the rule of his grandfather, the Prince of Wales, and then his father William.
