Meghan Markle was protected over Easter by ex-US President Barack Obama’s former bodyguard.

She was protected by Christopher Sanchez at the Invictus Games over the weekend.

Former Secret Service agent Sanchez spent a total of five years protecting presidents – half the time George W. Bush, then the same time for Obama.

He’s spent 21 years in national security shielding the rich and famous and is now a senior figure at two high-profile US firms.

He’s a director of Professional Protection & Investigations in Texas, which says his insurance is “above industry standards.”

It has expertise in “hostage negotiations, criminal and forensic investigations, crisis management, predictive threat protection”.

He is also vice president of risk management firm Torchstone, which has provided expertise in ten NFL Super Bowls and the last four presidential elections.

Harry is currently taking legal action against the UK Home Office after it rejected his request for the level of security afforded to working members of the royal family when he or his family visits the UK.

There were doubts he would ever set foot in the UK again after snubbing Prince Philip’s memorial service last month, but he stopped in to see the Queen and Prince Charles with Meghan on their way to Holland.

The Sussexes have signed a £113million deal with Netflix who are making a documentary at the Invictus Games.

But it wasn’t clear who is paying for Sanchez’s safety — or if Obama recommended Harry Sanchez’s services.

Former President Obama accompanied Harry to the 2017 Games.

It has been reported that the security guard was first seen looking after Meghan, 40, when Harry, 37, was taking part in the Land Rover Challenge at the event in The Hague, Holland on Saturday.

He then joined the Duchess as she was driven around the grounds in an electric golf buggy.

Yesterday he was helping guard the British Embassy tent where mother-of-two Meghan was taking a reading class with children of Invictus competitors.

The Sussexes spent the morning at the athletics track and front row in sitting volleyball as the first full day of competition began.

Harry has been described as “family members” at the games

The pair watched the action alongside Jaco Van Gass – a Paralympic gold medalist and former Invictus competitor who suffered life-changing injuries while serving in the British Army.

The 35-year veteran, who met Harry in 2011, said the couple had a “really, really good time” and described the Invictus team as the Duke’s “family”.

“He’s back with his own people, he’s back in an environment that he’s so natural in and that he cares about,” he added.

Harry and Meghan appeared relaxed while attending Sunday’s games, holding hands for most of the time.

They chatted with competitors on the track, many of whom were happy to have their picture taken with them.
