Lilibet’s first birthday cake featured Amalfi lemon and elderflower fillings after Prince Harry and Meghan Markel spent £244 on two tiers covered in strawberry buttercream
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly spent £244 on an extravagant two tier birthday cake for Lilibet’s first birthday.
The floral pink cake, topped with strawberry buttercream, was provided by the same baker who made the Sussexes’ wedding cake in 2018, the Daily Mail reports.
Harry and Meghan threw Lilibet a garden party at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor last weekend to celebrate her turning one during her first trip to the UK since moving to California.
The event included balloons, board games and picnic snacks, with Mike and Zara Tindall believed to be among the guests.
Claire Ptak, an American baker from east London, oversaw the low-key celebrations, including the cake, which featured Lilibet’s name and cascading pink peonies with an Amalfi lemon and elderflower filling.

Violet Cakes, Ptak’s bakery, described the cake on their website as “three layers of vanilla sponge, drizzled with elderflower syrup and filled with Amalfi Lemon Curd.”
Ptak wrote on the brand’s Instagram: “It was an absolute pleasure to bake this special cake for Lilibet’s birthday last week. I wish her a very happy year ahead!
“The inside was the Amalfi Lemon Elderflower Cake I created for the Duke and Duchess’ wedding in 2018, but this time we topped it with a strawberry buttercream especially for Lilibet.”
Among the gifts Lilibet reportedly received was a pastel pink VW Beetle ride-on car, while there was speculation Prince Charles may have bought her a swing similar to the one he bought for Prince George after an aide saw it as she unloaded the Sussexes’ private jet plane in Santa Barbara.
The couple left the UK with children Archie and Lilibet the day after the party, as they returned to California while the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations were underway.
Three-year-old Archie’s godfather, Charlie Van Straubenzee, and his brother Tom – who is Princess Charlotte’s godfather – are believed to have been invited to Lilibet’s birthday party.
Royal commentator and friend of the Sussexes, Omid Scobie, said on Twitter that the couple had invited close friends and family over for an “intimate backyard picnic” when he posted a picture on the social media platform.
A source told The Sun the party was: “A lovely touch and had everything you would expect from a children’s birthday party.
“The idea was that it should be very relaxed and informal, with people free to come and go as they please.”
Lilibet made her first visit to Britain and met several members of the royal family for the first time, including her great-grandmother the Queen, after whose childhood nickname she is named.
