He is said to have been “in contact” with his father and Palace officials expect him to return to the UK this summer, even if it is alone.

Our source said: “There has been a definite thaw in the relationship between Harry and Charles. They have much better terms and have friendly chat and video calling.

“It was suggested to Harry that he could live to regret any lingering bitterness in the family, and he took it upon himself.

“It feels like he’s coming back more and wants to be closer to his family.”

The royals are expecting Harry to return from his California home for the Queen’s Platinum Celebrations in June, but may not be without Meghan, 40, Archie, two and seven months old. Lilibet.

It remains unclear whether Harry, 37, will return for Prince Philip’s memorial service, scheduled for March or April. Buckingham Palace has been approached for comment.

The Queen is expected to be at Sandringham for her first long holiday since Prince Philip’s death.

She will spend Enrollment Day there on February 6 with her family.

Norfolk Manor is where George VI died in 1952, placing his daughter on the Crown.

A source said the Queen, 95, was keen to spend the day “somber reflection” ahead of the Platinum Jubilee events.

They added: “She is looking forward to throwing a four-day party for the country in June.”
