Prince Harry ‘outraged’ after failed meeting with Queen Elizabeth, the book claims

Prince Harry was reportedly “outraged” after a private meeting with the Queen to discuss his and Meghan Markle’s decision to step down from royal duties was reportedly obstructed by courtiers.

forthcoming book by The timesRoyal correspondent Valentine Low claims Harry sent an email to his father, King Charles III, that they wanted to go and live in North America.

An excerpt published in The timesLow spoke to members of the royal household for his book Courtiers: The hidden power behind the crown and claims that Harry felt such a decision could simply be “clarified via email”.

The discovery that further family negotiations would be required and that such a decision could take weeks to resolve apparently “resonated incredibly” with Harry.

To expedite matters, Harry arranged to meet the Queen alone before leaving for Canada.

However, he was apparently given the message that the Queen had been “confused” about her diary and was no longer available.

According to the book, Harry was “outraged” and believed that this was not true and that it was the courtiers who intercepted such a meeting, fearing it was “an attempt to lose the queen” before having more formal talks of the broader family would be started.

“There was a risk that a private conversation could be interpreted very differently by two people,” a royal source claimed.

The move is said to have enraged Harry so much that he considered driving straight from the airport to Sandringham to visit the Queen unannounced, a decision that was eventually dropped but which showed how frustrated he was with the situation.

The couple then announced their plans to step down on January 8, suggesting official talks were imminent, but such “inflexibility” by the palace is said to have infuriated them.

According to the book, Harry and Meghan felt “cornered, misunderstood and deeply unhappy” about their predicament.

The Independent has reached out to representatives of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for comment.

In another forthcoming book about tensions within the royal family, Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly “very hurt” by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step down as senior royals.

In the upcoming book The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crowna source close to the Queen has revealed that the late monarch was “exhausted by the turmoil” of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to leave the royal family.

“She was very hurt and said to me, ‘I don’t know, I don’t care, and I don’t want to think about it anymore,'” the source said to an excerpt from the book published in vanity fair.

On September 10, the Prince and Princess of Wales reunited with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as they viewed floral tributes to the Queen outside Windsor Castle.

According to a royal source, Prince William extended Prince Harry’s invitation to make a public appearance together as he believed it was “an important show of unity at an incredibly difficult time for the family”. Prince Harry ‘outraged’ after failed meeting with Queen Elizabeth, the book claims
