The leaked clippings reportedly included some jaw-dropping claims from the Duke of Sussex, ranging from physically assaulting his brother Prince William to the now-royal being jealous of him and his wife Meghan Markle.

What is a ghostwriter when Prince Harry publishes his memoir Spare?

A ghostwriter is a person hired to write a book, article, speech, or other written work on behalf of someone else.

The other person would be officially named as the author.

Although Prince Harry’s book is told in the first person, novelist JR Moehringer has collaborated and penned the highly anticipated memoir.

Who is the ghostwriter JR Moehringer behind Prince Harry’s book?

John Joseph Moehringer – better known by his pen name JR Moehringer – is an acclaimed American writer and journalist.

Born in New York City, Moehringer grew up in Manhasset, New York and Scottsdale, Arizona before receiving an Ivy League education from Yale University.

He began his career as a news assistant at The New York Times and has worked for several American publications, including the Rocky Mountain News and the Los Angeles Times.

While working for the Los Angeles Times, Moehringer was recognized as a finalist for the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Writing and later received the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Writing in 2000 for his article “Crossing Over”.

Moehringer is also a novelist, having written his own memoir The Tender Bar in 2005.

His story, which tells his experiences from childhood through the formative years he spent at his local bar in his 20’s, was recently made into a film.

Directed by George Clooney and starring Ben Affleck, Tye Sheridan and Daniel Ranieri, the film was released on Amazon Prime on January 7, 2022.

Moehringer now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife and two children.

What other books did JR Moehringer write before Prince Harry’s memoir?

Prince Harry’s all-encompassing memoir isn’t the first book JR Moehringer has ghostwritten.

He has worked on memoirs for other very notable figures, including Olympic tennis gold medalist and eight-time major champion Andre Agassi’s Open in 2009.

He also wrote Nike co-founder Phil Knight’s book Shoe Dog in 2016.

Moehringer also wrote the 2012 novel Sutton, based on the life of bank robber Willie Sutton.
