The Royal Family are out in full force today to kick off the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations – marking the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II on the throne.
The four day extravaganza begins with the Trooping The Color Parade and as part of this the Duchess of Cambridge, the Duchess of Cornwall and George, Charlotte and Louis rode down the Mall in a carriage.
All five were dressed very smartly, but the shy-eyed onlookers were particularly intrigued by the outfit worn by the youngest royal.
For his first official appearance, Prince Louis, 4, had donned a sailor outfit – and it has a sweet connection to his father.
Louis’ sailor outfit was worn by Prince William at the same event, Trooping The Color, in 1985.
The Duke of Cambridge, then just three years old, was photographed sporting a nautical look on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
Prince George also previously wore one of his father’s outfits at Trooping The Color in 2015.
Royal fans loved the recycled outfit, with one person saying on Twitter: “How adorable.”
Another wrote: “Prince Louis in a beautiful sailor outfit. So sweet!”
The royal family has a tradition of dressing children in sailor suits and nautical outfits that is said to date back to the time of Queen Victoria.
Princess Diana was a big fan of the sailor dress in the 80’s and Kate Middleton is also known for adopting this style for royal engagements.
Also Edward VIII and George VI. posed as children mainly in sailor suits.
The look is considered popular because it is timeless.
