Prince William privately has “a remarkably short fuse” and can be difficult to manage at times, a royal author has claimed.

Journalist Robert Jobson writes that the Duke of Cambridge “can be a bit of a hooligan” and his “temper can explode at any time” when the future king is frustrated or when an issue affects his family.

Mr. Jobson, write in the post as William prepares for his 40th birthday, citing royal sources who have described the prince as an emotional character who, along with his brother Harry, occasionally has unpredictable “extreme mood swings” – as does their mother Diana.

A former courtier reportedly said to Mr Jobson: “They both have pretty extreme mood swings, as does Diana. She could be your best friend one minute and your worst enemy the next.”

Mr Jobson claims the princes’ father Prince Charles has admitted he finds it difficult to gauge his sons’ sometimes unpredictable moods.

Insiders reportedly claim that even Williams’ senior staff “check which way the wind is blowing” before asserting themselves around him or addressing problematic issues.

Another close associate reportedly told Mr Jobson that William and his wife Kate are known for having passionate arguments at times.

They said: “He can be a bit of a howler when he loses his composure. It’s fair to say that the Duke and Duchess give their best when their disagreements result in raised voices.

“But they know each other so well, it usually goes away quickly — and she’s a big calming influence on him overall.”

The couple has been married for almost 11 years.

They’ve known each other since they were at university together, and William has reportedly had no shortage of attention from girls.

And when he settled down with Kate, many thought she was a very lucky woman.

But when one of the now-Duchess’s friends brought this point to her, she reportedly had a brilliant response.

When she was a student at St Andrews, a friend told Kate how happy she was to be dating William.

And according to Claudia Joseph, author of Kate Middleton: Princess in Waiting, Smiling, Kate simply replied, “He’s lucky to have me.”

Although Kate was not born into the royal family, she was born into an upper-middle-class family, with her father being the son of a wealthy Yorkshire family with connections to the British aristocracy.
