Princess Diana “embarrassed William by using him as an emotional crutch,” says the author

Royal author Robert Jobson also claims Diana would often embarrass William when he found himself in the middle of the ‘War of the Waleses’.

Princess Diana relied on a young Prince William as her emotional crutch, according to a new book.

Royal author Robert Jobson also claims Diana would often embarrass William when he found himself in the middle of the ‘War of the Waleses’.

Growing more restless as her marriage fell apart, Diana reportedly leaned on William for support and “went too far to burden him with her problems.”

writing for them Daily MailClaims Mr Jobson: “For William, school was not only fun but also a break from his mother’s increasing tendency to lean on him as an emotional crutch.

“Later on, even Diana privately admitted that she had gone too far to burden him with her problems.

“She had started calling William ‘the man in my life’ and he did his best to support her – at one point he told her he wanted to be a police officer to protect her. But he was only 10 when his parents officially split in 1992.”

On another occasion, writer Bel Mooney and her daughter Kitty were invited to a dinner party with Prince Charles and William.

At one point during the party, Charles reportedly burst into song, prompting Kitty to speak to Willian about how awkward parents can be – to which William reportedly said: “Dad doesn’t embarrass me – Mom does.”

It means that the school, namely Eton, became a ‘refuge’ for William away from the so-called ‘War of the Waleses’.

However, with William reportedly feeling “burdened”, Prince Harry always reveled in the freedom he enjoyed as a child – something he knew brother William would never have, claims a royal author.

Robert Jobson said the “wicked” little king is “completely out of control at times” and told his older sibling and second in line to the throne he could “do whatever I want”.

The now Duke of Sussex, 37, often felt overshadowed by the attention William received, including deference from royal staff at a young age.

He would also be invited to visit the Queen Mother alone and without his younger sibling.

The author and journalist said that while Harry never directly expressed his grudges in public, it did create tension between the two.

But this came out on shows of cheeky rebellion, which her mother, Princess Diana, found “hilarious”.

At one point, the three were driven to Prince Charles’ home in Highgrove, Gloucestershire, along with Royal Protection Officer Ken Wharfe.

Harry and William, just six and eight, were arguing in the back seat as the younger brother said: “You’re going to be king. I won’t – so I can do what I want!”

Jobson writes in his new book, William At 40: The Making Of A Modern Monarch, excerpts of which will be published in the daily mailDiana and Wharfe said they were “a little shocked,” the constable later told him.
