Princess Diana’s family contradicted comparison between Harry’s mother and Meghan: book

Prince Harry has reportedly failed to get the support he sought from his mother Princess Diana’s family in marrying Meghan Markle, a new biography on the British royal family claims.

British writer and investigative journalist Tom Bower claimed in his newly released book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors that Princess Diana’s siblings allegedly saw no resemblance between the late royal and Markle, warning the Prince in 2017 Harry opposed marrying the Suits graduate. International Business Times has not been able to independently verify the claims.

“By then, Harry had introduced Meghan to Diana’s two sisters, [Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale], and her best friend Julia Samuel,” the former BBC journalist wrote in his book, according to Marie Claire. “Harry assumed Diana’s family and friends would see a resemblance between Diana and his fiancée. Both, he said, have the same problems.”

“He was disappointed. No one agreed that his vulnerable mother had anything in common with his girlfriend. What was even more awkward for him was that they didn’t think Meghan would fit into the royal family,” Bower continued.

The author claimed Charles Spencer, Princess Diana’s brother, expressed the family’s “discomfort”.

“At William’s request, Spencer intervened. Married three times, Spencer admonished his nephew to reconsider his rush toward marriage. His advice provoked a bitter reaction,” Bower claimed.

Prince Harry married Markle in a lavish ceremony at St. George’s Chapel in May 2018.

Princess Diana’s siblings attended the wedding and Fellowes gave a reading during the service.

“Prince Harry and Ms Markle are both honored that Lady Jane will represent their family and help celebrate the memory of the late Princess on their wedding anniversary,” Kensington Palace announced in a statement released days before the wedding became.

Bower’s book’s claims came after a 2020 Sussex biography by royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, “Finding Freedom,” which claimed that Prince Harry and Prince William’s relationship was first strained when the latter in questioned how quickly his younger brother moved with Markle, according to Us Weekly.

The Duke of Sussex reportedly confirmed the split in October 2019, five months after Markle gave birth to their son Archie.

“We are brothers, we will always be brothers. We’re certainly on different paths at the moment but I will always be there for him and I know he will always be there for me,” he explained of his ITV documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey. “We don’t see each other as often as we used to because we’re so busy, but I love him very much. …You have good days, you have bad days.”

Prince Harry and Markle have not responded to the claims made about them in Bower’s new book. A royal expert predicted the couple are likely to remain silent on the matter.

“When you’re as famous as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, there’s going to be a lot of speculation,” historian Gareth Russell, author of Do Let’s Have Another Drink, told Us Weekly. “It doesn’t always do anybody any good in public life to always answer and refute these claims.”
