Prisoner rescued from cell in fire at Lewes Prison

A PRISONER had to be rescued from his cell during a prison fire.

Ambulance services were called to the fire at HMP Lewes at 5.19pm on Saturday 30 July.

Fire crews from Lewes, Preston Circus and Roedean attended the fire at Brighton Road, Lewes.

A spokesman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Services said they responded to reports of a fire in a cell.

“One person was released from the cell and placed in the care of SECAMB,” he said.

“Firefighters extinguished the fire with a hose reel and used two breathing apparatus.
