Proceeds seize €139,000 worth of cannabis hidden as car seat covers in Dublin airport storage

Treasury officials seized over 6.9kg of cannabis in two separate operations this week when examining packages at Dublin Airport.

The drugs, with an estimated total street value of €150,000, were found hidden in air freight shipments identified as “car seat covers” on Wednesday, as a result of routine profiling.

The shipments had arrived at the warehouse in Ireland from the United States and were destined for delivery to addresses in Counties Dublin and Kildare.

Separately, finance officers at Dublin District Court were issued a three-month cash detention order by Judge Paula Murphy following the previous day’s seizure of €15,000 at Dublin Airport.

The cash was discovered when tax officials stopped and searched a passenger before boarding a flight bound for Alicante, Spain.

The cash is presumed to have been obtained from or intended for criminal activity and will be withheld by the Revenue Commissioners in accordance with the Proceeds of Crime Acts.

Investigations into these confiscations are ongoing.
