A Proclaimers superfan lost 13 stones after being shocked by a photo with her idols.

Nichola Maclean has been a fan of Craig and Charlie Reid since she was ten.

Her thrills at meeting the twin singers faded after she thought she looked “huge” in a picture following a performance in Oban in 2018.

Nichola, who is 6ft 3, was “shamed” after her weight had increased over the years.

This was announced by the retail supervisor daily record : “At that point I weighed 27 kilos and wore a size 24, I didn’t realize that beforehand, but when I looked at the photo I knew I was huge.

“Because of my height, I thought I might have hidden it well.

“This photo was the wake-up call I needed to make a change.”

The Tyndrum, Perthshire mum started putting on the pounds while working 70-hour weeks in a burger van.

Nichola says she ate from the van on the way and rarely exercised after work.

As her weight began to increase, she developed headaches and felt lethargic before a doctor diagnosed her with dangerously high blood pressure.

Her brother-in-law Billy had died aged just 52 from an undiagnosed heart condition and fears about the health check forced her to take action.

Nichola continued, “I knew my health was precious and I had to do something.”

Inspired by her favorite singers, Nichola planned to walk 500 miles from Tyndrum to John O’Groats and back to lose weight and raise money for charity.

But to prepare for the long trek, she had to embark on a major health rush.

She started eating healthy meals with smaller portions, gave up the food stalls and embarked on a new fitness routine.

In three years, she dropped four dress sizes and lost a whopping 13 stone

Nichola said: “Changing my diet and exercise basically meant I had to overhaul my whole life.

“It was emotionally and physically draining, a real fight. But it was a fight worth fighting.”

She will now begin her 500-mile mission across Scotland this weekend, walking 20 miles a day for four weeks and planning to stay with friends along the way.

And she won’t be without support, with two very special ones among those helping Nichola bring down her mammoth effort – the Proclaimers themselves.

She added: “Craig and Charlie were amazing.

“They let me use their lyrics for the logo on our charity t-shirts. I held a whiskey auction before I left and they autographed a few bottles.

“And of course I’ve listened to their music along the way, my favorite song is ‘Love Can Move Mountains’.

“From that first photo with them to their unwavering support, they really inspired me.”

Nichola raises money for four charities; Argyll Beats Cardiovascular Disease (ABCD), Scottish Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA), Worldwide Cancer Research and 500 Miles helping people with mobility issues.

She chose ABCD in memory of her brother Billy, while also having 500 Miles close to her heart.
